Shelter Valley Folk Festival arts organization celebrates 10 years this Labour Day weekend (Aug 30 – Sept 1) on the hills of Northumberland about an hour east of Toronto overlooking Lake Ontario. Applications for the jury process are open until April 15th at hwww.sheltervalley.com. Join us for a very special experience on the Henkel Family Lavender Farm. The Festival is also inviting Wellness and Sustainable Living practitioners to submit for workshops and participation.

Osgoode Hall Law School of York University is putting out a call for Artist in Residence, with an application deadline of Thursday, February 28, 2013. Osgoode’s Artist in Residency Program is designed to explore representations of justice and legal education in the context of Osgoode’s commitment to researching and teaching law in context. We welcome projects focused on interpreting legal history, on examining law’s realities today, and imagining law’s future, whether in Canada and/or elsewhere in the world. We are particularly interested in artists and projects which will reflect and enhance the diversity of the Osgoode community.

At carte blanche we believe there is more than one way to tell a story, and our mandate is to provide a venue for narrative of all forms. We are currently accepting original, previously unpublished poetry, fiction, nonfiction, translation, photography and audio submissions for our Spring, Summer and Fall 2013 Issues. (Note, we now only have one submission period per year.) Contributors receive a $45 honorarium per published piece. Deadline is March 1st, 2013. Call for Teen Artists for “Young Artists Exhibition”!
On Thursday November 29th, The Bïzune Gallery will be hosting a “Young Artists Exhibition”!  This exhibition will feature works from Toronto’s finest artists between the ages of 13 and 18 years old.  The Bizune Gallery is offering young artists the unique opportunity to show their works in a gallery setting.  The exhibition will include an evening opening reception with food and entertainment and one week of public gallery hours.  The exhibition will give the budding artist exposure, prepare them for future gallery settings and motivate them towards furthering their exploration of the arts.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Canadian Writer-in-Residence – University of Calgary (Calgary, Alberta)

The Calgary Distinguished Writers Program encourages submissions from promising Canadian writers for the position of Canadian Writer-in-Residence, a ten-month residency at the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Arts from August 15, 2014 to June 15, 2015.

This is a unique opportunity for early to mid-career Canadian writers to devote their time to writing and to advancing their writing careers. Applications for the position are encouraged from writers from diverse genres—including literary fiction or non-fiction, poetry, scriptwriting, and playwriting. Candidates will have one to four published and/or performed works to their credit, and are expected to propose a project or projects that they will undertake during their term as Canadian Writer-in-Residence. They will preferably, but not necessarily, hold a university degree.

“VHS Beta and Nintendo art contest”

We invite artists to submit a 2D artwork (maximum size 5′ x 5′ ) inspired by a movie or a video game from the 80′s that has really influenced them. All 2D techniques will be accepted (oil, acrylic, drawing, collage, photography, etc).

Deadline for registration will be October 28 or the moment we reach 25 registered artists (the artwork does not need to be finished by the registration deadline; the date to drop the finished artwork is November 2nd).

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Sculptors wanted for Castlegar Sculturewalk (Open)

Castlegar Sculpturewalk is now accepting applicants from sculptors to take part in our 2013 event. Now in its third successful year, Sculpturewalk is a year-long outdoor exhibit of original sculpture by local and international artists, located in beautiful Castlegar, British Columbia. The sculptures are owned by the artists and loaned to the exhibit, where they are available for purchase, lease, and are open for public voting. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will be purchased by The City of Castlegar for permanent display, and cash prizes are also awarded. Transportation costs up to $500 are covered.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: RMG Exposed – Robert McLaughlin Gallery (Regional and National photographers)

RMG EXPOSED is a juried photo competition and photography auction event. It promotes and raises awareness about The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, contemporary photography, as well as showcases the talent of regional and national photographers.

This year’s juried competition has a new prize; the RBC EMERGING PHOTOGRAPHER AWARD. This award, for best overall submission, has a prize of a Spring 2013 Solo Exhibition Project at the RMG including a $2000 artists’ fee.  Selected finalists are required to donate an exhibition-quality print of their work to the RMG for auction. Donors also receive a ticket the event, where awards will be announced.
