Take Charge of What’s Important to You

Now that it’s February, goals we set on New Year’s Eve may seem out of focus. One way to get back on track is to ask, What are the things I value in living a creative life? For example, I know I value the freedom to make my own schedule, have a variety of work projects, independence, a pace that suits me and meaningful work.

How do you know what’s most important to you? Dr. John Demartini (www.drdemartini.com) has come up with a value determination quiz.

Here are the questions he suggests you ask yourself:

1.    What do you fill your space with (home and office)?
2.    How do you spend your time?
3.    How do you spend your energy?
4.    What do you spend your money on beyond monthly set expenses?
5.    Where are you most organized and ordered?
6.    Where are you most disciplined and reliable?
7.    What do you think about or focus on most?
8.    What do you envision or dream about most?
9.    What do you internally dialogue about most?
10.  What do you externally dialogue about most?
11.   What are you inspired about most?
12.  What do you set goals towards most?

By answering these questions you will come up with your unique list of things that you find important. Once you have this list, rate them in order of significance to you. This can be difficult to do, but it’s an essential step to regain that focus.

So, what did you find out? Any surprises?

Truth is, what we focus on becomes real, and we perceive opportunities around this point of focus that we might otherwise have missed.

What is real for you today?
