Courtney Love may be best known as the lead signer for Hole, her unstable lifestyle including her marriage to Nirvana’s Kurt Cobian, and most recently a stint on the final season of Sons of Anarchy, but now Love has added opera star to her resume after signing on to play the lead role in Todd Almond’s production of Kansas City Choir Boy, which will launch in New York on January 8th.
But if you were thinking this was going to be an ordinary opera – honestly, were you? – then think again.
Almond refers to the music as a “concept album,” telling the Times: “When I say ‘opera,’ I don’t mean it’s in an operatic style. I mean it in the sense that it’s a group of songs that tell a story. I write musicals, I write plays and I write what I call opera, which I think of as a form that opens the minds of both the performers and the listeners.”
What do you think? Will this be the new Madame Butterfly? Would you go see Courtney Love in an opera?
