When Chris Hadfield became the first Canadian to command a space mission on the International Space Station, he used social media to bring the rest of the world along with him. Now, continuing the adventure, ABC will attempt to turn Hadfield’s book “An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth” into a sitcom.
According to Deadline, ABC has ordered a pilot based on the book, which was a bestseller in 2013. The family focused series will center around an astronaut returning to Earth after an extended time in space. He has to learn how to adjust back into Earth-based society, which “might be the hardest mission he’s ever faced.”
Although many have become familiar with the astronaut’s public persona, he won’t actually be starring in the show himself, instead Hadfield will be acting as a consulting producer. Perhaps a guest appearance or two?
The book that the pilot will be based on “takes readers through an astronaut’s adventures, both in space and on Earth, and how those experiences relate to life on Earth.”
Hadfield’s second book “You Are Here: Around the World in 92 Minutes” is scheduled to be released this month and in it “Hadfield relives his time in orbit around Earth, including photos that he took on-board the ISS.”
