The Sobey Art Award, considered “among the international art world’s most significant,” [ArtInfo] was already a financial force with a prize purse of $70,000, but now it has upped its game by announcing that they are increasing the total to $100,000.

The prize which recognizes “a Canadian artist, age 40 or younger, who has exhibited work in a public or commercial gallery within 18 months of being nominated” awards their winners with $50,000 (a number that has not changed from last year), but now the four short-listed artists will each receive $10,000 (up from $5,000) and the twenty long-listed artists will take home $500 each (they previously did not receive anything other than the prestigious mention).

The 2014 Sobey Art Award will begin accepting nominations on February 1st with the long-list announcement coming in April and the short-listed finalists named in June.
