Development Officer: Sponsorship, Stewardship & Community Outreach

The Calgary International Children’s Festival is the third largest performing arts festival for children and young people in North America. We are a registered charitable organization and incorporated as a society in the Province of Alberta.

As we enter into our 27th year we are seeking an enthusiastic, tenacious, and well-organized individual to become our Development and Outreach Manager.

Working closely with the Festival’s Executive Director and Board of Directors, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining sponsor and donor communications and initiatives, and leading the Festival’s Outreach program.

Reporting to the Executive Director this key member of the Festival team is involved in corporate and community incentives and must be equally comfortable in the corporate and not-for-profit sectors. This core function of this position is as a fund-raiser. Related experience in Fund Development or Sales is essential. This position is suitable for an intermediate or senior level professional.

Qualifications include:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years professional fundraising experience or five years combined experience in development and a closely related field (marketing, public relations, or sales)

Extensive experience in prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation

A demonstrated ability to manage programs and develop strategies to achieve operating goals

The ability and willingness to quickly learn the Festival history, mission, demographics, and programming, in order to persuasively articulate how the CICF distinguishes itself from other arts organizations

A strong sense of donor driven customer service

Proficiency in the use of personal computers

The ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

In addition, successful candidate will have the discretion and ability to interact with high-level donors; the ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality; and the ability to make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospective donors to Festival needs.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate experience working with volunteer boards; have experience in arts fundraising; and have knowledge in the area of the theatre for young audiences.
