The Organization

The International Music Camp was founded in 1956 as a one-week summer band camp, and has evolved into a vibrant summer school of fine arts now offering over 40 programs for students of all ages. Approximately 2,000 students from around the world attend camp every summer, and more than 127,000 students have participated in IMC programs over 57 seasons. The IMC is a residential camp, where students and staff live and learn in intense one-week sessions each summer. Campers are led and influenced by carefully selected artist teachers in every discipline and artistic specialty.  Programs are offered in vocal and instrumental music, theatre, dance, visual art and writing. A Professional Development for Educators program is offered during each session, in which middle school and high school arts teachers participate in learning opportunities with IMC faculty. The camp is located within the beautiful International Peace Garden on the Manitoba/North Dakota border.  The camp facility includes nearly 80 buildings, including a state-of-the-art concert hall, music library and computer lab, classrooms, studios, dormitories and more.  The International Music Camp is a non-profit corporation in the United States and Canada.

Mission Statement

The mission of the International Music Camp is to enrich lives through artistic expression and personal growth, accomplished by opportunities provided through a summer school of fine arts located at the International Peace Garden on the Canada/USA border between Manitoba and North Dakota. Youth and adults who participate in camp sessions are immersed in a rich creative culture, which encourages individual expression, group interaction, and the development of independent thinking and decision-making. Activities in music, theatre, dance, writing, and visual art are taught and led by professional artist-teachers who serve as motivational role models and who are dedicated to providing exemplary instruction and direction, a positive and nurturing environment, and authentic learning experiences.
