Canadian Arts Jobs – 08/27/12
August 27, 2012 in Jobs by Desirée Ossandon
Hello!
This weekend I found myself contemplating a move and although I’m not sure if/where/when it will happen, it had me thinking about the flexibility of my current job and lifestyle. If I wanted to, I could relocate to practically anywhere in the country (or beyond, I suppose).
So today my question is…
Why do you live/work where you do?
I’d be really interested to read your answers in the comments below (perhaps you can help me make up my mind on whether to stay, go, and where that might be). And be sure to take a look at the great list of opportunities on today’s list.
Have a wonderful day!

I live in Guelph ON – a lovely “small enough to be neighbourly, big enough to be interesting” city. I’ve been here 4 years now (after 17 in BC, and 10 in TO before that) and love it, but I admit I came here because I found I could no longer afford to live in Vancouver or Toronto. Those major centres may be where the creative jobs are but the pay scales don’t seem to match the needed cost of living within them, nor do they pay enough to commute. I had to make the choice of closing my glass studio in BC after 16 years, returning to ON, and taking a Day Job outside of my field and moving to a more affordable community. I enjoy Guelph quite a bit, it has a small but vibrant arts & culture community, but I do miss my years self employed in the arts.
