2012/13 Internship Program now accepting applications:
Shakespeare in Action is Canada’s Leading Classical Theatre Company for young audiences. For over 24 years, we have developed unique theatre practices to help activate young people’s enjoyment and understanding of Shakespeare’s language and plays.
Shakespeare in Action’s Internship program has given dozens of interns meaningful opportunities to develop professional skills, network with professional theatre artists and be part of a dynamic creative team committed to awakening a passion for Shakespeare and classical theatre.
Interns will gain professional experience in all aspects of theatre production and administration including:
- Grant writing and fundraising
- Marketing and social networking in a non-profit context
- Education and outreach programming
- Videography and the development of the SIA Virtual Lab
- Set, costume and lighting design & construction
- Stage Management
- Box Office and customer relations
Interns are mentored closely by professional administrators and artists including directors, designers and production personnel.
Successful interns must be able to commit a minimum of 12 hours per week and the internship runs from September 2011 – May 2012. There is flexibility around days/time worked.
Successful applicants will either be enrolled in or have completed a University degree in a pertinent field, including theatre theory, acting, design, theatre production, English literature, business, education or the Arts.
Preferably, applicants will have had experience participating in theatre productions.
Most importantly, successful applicants will have a passion for Shakespeare, classical theatre or theatre for young audiences. You will have a desire to learn more about creating theatre in a professional context and be a good team player.

As we work in a Toronto high school and work closely with young people, successful applicants will be required to produce a negative CPIC (Criminal Record Check).
