Primary Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

 Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Manager – Fund Development will support the MacKenzie Art Gallery’s contribution to the cultural sector in Saskatchewan and beyond.

Provides strategic direction for, designs and leads the execution of an integrated fund development program with the Gallery fund development team. The program will include special and annual campaigns, corporate sponsorships, donations and memberships, private and individual donations, planned giving, individual memberships and special events.

Develops and proposes the budget, performance targets, stewardship responsibilities and evaluation measures of the fund development program.

Advises and supports the Executive Director in developing and growing the Gallery’s partners and stakeholders.

Develops and directs the Gallery’s volunteer interests, including support to and liaison with the MacKenzie Gallery Volunteers.

Provides strategic and operational leadership and support to Gallery staff as a member of the Gallery’s management team.

1.             Plan fund development activities

1.1          Create and recommend a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the Gallery.

1.2          Implement the fund development plan in accordance with ethical fundraising principles.

1.3          Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved.

1.4          Monitor trends in the community and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary.

1.5          Manage an individual and corporate membership program which contributes to the overall financial health of the Gallery.

2.             Organize fund development activities

2.1          Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner.

2.2          Develop and implement policies and procedures for the development program, including donor and sponsor recognition, which reflect ethical fundraising practices.

2.3          Prepare and submit grant applications as outlined in the fund development plan to generate funds for the Gallery.

2.4          Identify and develop corporate and individual prospects for the Gallery’s fundraising priorities.

2.5          Research and develop prospect lists and solicit sponsorships, donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.

2.6          Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list and database which respects privacy and confidentiality of donor information.

2.7          Coordinate in-kind donations and make decisions regarding the issuing of receipts.

3.             Manage staff fund development team

3.1          In consultation with the Executive Director, recruit, interview, and select well-qualified fund development staff and volunteers.

3.2          Manage, support and mentor staff team to maximize its effectiveness.

3.3          Engage volunteers for special fund development projects using established volunteer management practices.

4.             Manage fund development budget

4.1          Develop an annual income and expenditure budget for the fund development program.

4.2           Prepare regular reports related to fundraising and the management of the fund development activities.

4.3          Monitor fund development revenue and expenses, analyze budget reports on development activities, and recommend changes as necessary.

5.             Develop the Gallery’s Volunteer Capacity

5.1          Liaise with and support the MacKenzie Gallery Volunteers.

5.2          Identify the volunteer needs of Gallery operations and work with MGV to achieve them.

5.3          Develop and implement volunteer recognition programs.

6.             Promote the Gallery and its Public Value

6.1          Foster an understanding of philanthropy and fundraising issues within the Gallery.

6.2          Develop a comprehensive communication in conjunction with the Marketing Manager to promote the Gallery to its donors, members, and sponsors, and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization.

6.3          In conjunction with the Marketing Manager coordinate the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communications materials for development efforts.

6.4          Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the Gallery.

6.5          Cultivate stewardship of donors, members and sponsors.

Education and Experience

· Bachelors Degree or equivalent in related field.

- A certification in Fundraising Management is an asset.

- 5-10 years of major fundraising experience, including capital campaign experience.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

- Significant involvement in the non-profit sector, in a paid or volunteer capacity.

- Understanding and application of strategic planning.

- Track record of effective verbal and written communications.

- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation affecting charities.

- Knowledge of fundraising management.

- Knowledge of special event planning and management.

- Knowledge of the management of volunteer resources.

- Knowledge of the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy’s Ethical and Financial Accountability Code.
